So Santa brought you an Instant Pot for Christmas? Here’s what you need to know!

Santa was nice to you this year and brought you an Instant Pot for Christmas this year.  I’ve had mine since last year and I love it!!  It makes meal time so much easier especially when you want to make real food for your family and not the junk easy fast food you usually have time for.  I know what it’s like to have a chaotic lifestyle, I have 2 boys that eat tons and play lots of sports.  And with 2 businesses that we run out of our house, sometimes dinner time is not the easiest!  I love making hard boiled eggs, potato salad, roast and mashed potatoes in mine!  I’ve also made beef n broccoli and a few other yummy things too!!
You can also use your Instant Pot to make desserts.  I’ve made homemade cinnamon applesauce and I’ve also made an oreo cheesecake!!  This thing is amazing.  There are a few recipe pages out there that I read, I also read them on Pinterest and I have some groups on Facebook that I’m on that also help.

Dove Dry Spray- Invisible coverage for your little blue dress!

This post is brought to you by Dove.  I received a complimentary product to use and test and the opinions are all of my own.

img_6718

I was so excited to be selected by Influenster to try out the Dove dry spray invisible antiantiperspirant.  I opened the box and it came in this lightweight bottle that is perfectly formed to be able to easily spray with 1 hand while your getting ready in the morning.   I had heard about this dry spray from a friend before I was going to a wedding this summer and was interested in trying it.  I HATE when you put deodorant on and you have white balls of clumped deodorant under your armpits or you use the clear kind and it’s sticky and it just doesn’t work as well to keep you try.  This dry spray is meant to keep you dry, feel dry and not leave white marks on any of your clothing.

We went to Chicago this Labor Day weekend for a family wedding and I had found a cute dress to wear from Target.  It was on clearance and I also had a cartwheel discount so I got it for around $13!! Who doesn’t love a good discount.  Anyways, the dress was a dark blue and I didn’t want to have to worry about having deodorant marks on the dress all night.   I did buy some of the dry spray and it worked great! And if you know me, I love my deodorant, I used to carry a small deodorant in my purse all the time because I HATE the way I feel when I’m sweaty.  This Dove product worked great and I was able to dance the night away and not worry about lifting my arms up at all!

This product will be great in the summer when your wearing your tank tops all the time and don’t want a clumpy mess to deal with.  You can wear black without worrying if your going to have any smear marks on your shirts when your putting them on too.  Way to go Dove!

Dove Invisible Antiperspirants are specially formulated to leave no white marks on 100 colors of clothing.  Offered in Dove Advanced Care and Dove Dry Spray formats, these antiperspirants provide 48-hour odor and wetness protection plus Dove 3/4 moisturizers for added skin care benefits, for softer, smoother underarms.

Looking to get into embroidery? Stop here for what you’ll need!

I always had a want to make cute monogrammed shirts, saying how cute they were and I’d love to learn to do them someday.  Then came the reality of a work bonus one year that allowed me to purchase a machine that I wanted so I could start doing what I knew I’d eventually would love.  If your like me, the following will help you a ton and get you well on your way to introduction to embroidery.

Things you’ll want to purchase-

Embroidery Machine

Thread

Interfacing

Scissors to trim designs

Now first off, you’ll need a machine.  I knew that I wanted to start out with a 5×7 sized hoop because I didn’t want to be limited with my designs and grow out of a machine within a week of having it.  So after a lot of research I decided on a Brother PE-770.  This is an embroidery only machine, meaning you can’t use it for anything else but that.  It does not work as a regular sewing machine at all.  You can do applique, monograms and lots of different embroidery designs with this machine though.  When you start out, it can be intimidating but I watched lots of you-tube videos and read lots of blogs so I knew how to use it.  I also managed to get a good deal on the machine, after stalking the internet for sales and deals (who doesn’t love a good bargain) I found a machine on Amazon Warehouse that had been returned and they were reselling for a discounted price.  Now some might say that’s crazy but the description said that it was in great shape and wasn’t used.  They were right, it still had the tape on certain things, meaning the person might of bought it and said wow, I don’t know what I’m doing so they just sent it back.

After you get your machine, you’ll want to read the book and go over some of the designs that come pre-loaded on the machine and try doing a few basic things with it.  There are a few different alphabets pre-loaded on the machine plus a few other designs.  You’ll want to get a USB dongle so you can save designs you’ve downloaded from the internet too.  This is easier than trying to hook your computer up to the computer all the time and then you can use it over and over again.

You’ll need to get assorted colors of thread that you will want for the designs you’ll be doing.  You’ll also need bobbin thread for the machine.  You can either buy pre-wound bobbins or the machine has an area to wind the bobbins up for you.  I liked using the Brother bobbin thread, it seemed to work best with that machine.

You’ll also need fabric if your wanting to do appliques.  Different colors will be needed for different designs.  There are SO many websites out there with designs to download and use.

One of the very first things I made were these name pillows for all sorts of people in my family.  I bought a basic applique alphabet from someone online, and then would line up each letter and stitch out the pillows and sew it right up.  I just LOVED that I was able to make personalized gifts for family members.  I always feel that handmade gifts come from love so that means more than some store bought gift for sure.

You will have a few other accessories for your machine, you’ll want some really good scissors to trim your applique fabrics.  There will be tight corners and hard areas to cut, so I love this style.  The curved scissors.

Or this style-

But it all depends on what style you’d prefer.

You’ll also need stabilizer because that goes under the fabric so that you have a stiff background for it to stitch into and hold the design up through the fabric.  There are cut away, tear away, thick, thin and other kinds.  Again, once you start learning embroidery you’ll know what kinds you’ll need for what projects.

This is pretty much what you’ll need to get started.  I have since grown out of this Brother PE770 machine and I have a Brother PE655e 6 needle embroidery machine now.  I LOVE IT!! I love that I can do SO many different things, make such large designs and embroider jackets for my son’s hockey team with ease.  You’ll find what you love and move up and change machines as you grow.

DIY Handmade Utility Apron

1

I’m doing a few craft shows in the next couple months and I remember the last few that I did how it was a pain to always worry about the money being in a safe place and also where my card reader was for credit card transactions.  Well I was going to just go buy a utility apron from Home Depot or JoAnn’s.

But thanks to Pinterest I found a cute pattern to try and made something for myself today! I rarely make things for myself so I’m excited and this one will be useful too!  You could also use a utility apron like this when your cleaning your house, having a garage sale or doing a handmade market fair.

http://roseycornercreations.blogspot.ca/2010/08/utility-apron-tutorial.html

I followed that pattern and my apron turned out great! I have SO much fabric that it was silly to go out and get some more, I knew I had enough pieces of fabric to make one.  And it’s cute too!  No boring utility apron for me.

You could do it in all sorts of cute colors to match different things!  I love navy blue so I thought that this was a cute color combination with bright and dark colors.

There are pockets to hold different items.  I imagine I’ll use it to hold a pen, tape, my phone, Paypal card reader and money from my customers who pay in cash.  The pattern was super easy to read and turned out amazing!

One Pot Penne Dinner – Instant Pot Dinner Idea Spaghetti Dinner

img_61061So last Christmas season I kept hearing about this amazing kitchen tool that would make your cooking faster and easier on those nights you are short on time.  This amazing appliance is called Instant Pot!  It is a new age pressure cooker!  It’s all electronic and very safe to use.

My favorite fast dinner recipe is so easy!

You will need these items to make the Penne Pasta dish-

1 box of penne pasta (any larger style pasta will work)

1lb of hamburger/ground turkey

1 jar of your favorite pasta sauce

Water

Spices to taste

Directions:

Turn on Instant Pot to sauté and put in your ground meat.  Add any of the regular spices you would add to your spaghetti dinner. I added some garlic powder, fried onion and basil.  Mix the meat around and cook it until it’s browned.

Once your meat is browned, you’ll want to turn the Instant Pot off sauté and add in your box of noodles and your jar of spaghetti sauce.  You’ll also need to add in a jar of water to the pot during this time.  The pressure cooker portion needs water/liquid to help cook the food, so don’t forget this part.  Mix it all together.

Put the lid on the pot and lock it and press manual.  Turn the timer to 5 minutes and let it start! When the pressure cooker is done cooking, it will beep.  Let it come down from pressure for 5 minutes and then let the rest of the pressure out.  Open up the Instant Pot and stir your food around.  That’s it! Dinner is complete!! It’s really that easy and such a great meal! And you’ve only dirtied 1 pan!!

I added parmasean cheese for a finishing touch.  Serve with garlic bread and voila!

Another easy dish to make is potato salad and hard boiled eggs!  If you get one, you won’t be disappointed at all!

Tie Dyed 4th of July shirts

So my sons wanted to be creative and make something over the long holiday weekend so we decided to make 4th of July tie dyed shirts to wear.  We made extras for other family members and it was so much fun!!

We went to Hobby Lobby and started out with white shirts and a 3 pack of dye.  We mostly only used the red and blue so we could be patriotic with our shirts.

We made shirts a few years ago courtesy of JoAnn Fabrics if you’d like to see them, click HERE

We searched the Internet for different patterns and found a couple different cool ones.  We tried a few different patterns but one turned out the best.

Let’s get started!  We twisted and bunched the shirts up to how we wanted our designs to turn out.  Next we started to put the dye on them.  Make sure you wear gloves or your hands will turn colors!!

We let them sit in the sun to dry and then rinsed them out to rinse the color out and then washed it in the washing machine.

We decided that the color on Caden’s turned out the best!

It’s a super easy project to do with your kids and they will love to wear their new shirts proudly! 🇺🇸
