End of the Year Teacher’s Gift- String Art

So I saw an idea for an end of the year teacher’s present so I went and got the supplies and we worked on it a few weeks ago!  I couldn’t share the details until we gave it to my son’s teacher but since school was out yesterday, I decided to post about it!

We did some string art a few years ago and my kids had fun doing it.  So this year I saw someone did one with a grey stain, so I wanted to give that a try.  Bright colored embroidery thread and a grey wood stain- different but cute!

So I went to Home Depot and I bought a piece of 1″ x 8″ x 8′ wood and had my husband cut it down into 12″ pieces.  Then we had enough for a few projects that I wanted to try and do.

I bought this grey stain to use as the wood color, instead of a regular colored stain on the boards.  Giving it a new color to try.  I did have to buy a big can, so I’ll have it for a long time!  They didn’t have the grey in the smaller cans.

Then I went and bought some embroidery floss in bright cheery colors from JoAnn Fabrics.  I decided to be bright and fun and I had another creation idea in my head to hang on my craft room wall, so this was fun!  I got all the colors of the rainbow!

So I printed off a design on the computer with Open Office.  Then I used the nails I had bought and nailed along the outline of the letters on the paper.  Once this is done you peel the paper off and then you have your pattern.

Then you simply just tie the thread onto the nail and string along the thread! It’s that easy!  And it’s not very expensive either!  So we made 1 for my son’s teacher and then I made one for fun to hang in my craft room.  I did some thicker letters on my sign but it just made it that more complicated to see what nails belonged to what letter!
